When was the first time you realized that politics is a thankless profession, that the only gratitude you would ever receive would be for deeds done for a few at the expense of the many, and that such gratitude had a very short shelf life?

The electorate has to be absolute believers in the general will to reward you with their gratitude when you vote in its interest. Sadly, most everyone looks after their own interests first, and care little for the interests of others.
