I may be bland, but bland works.
William Davis (1929–2001), Canadian politician, premier of Ontario, in Rosemary Speirs, Out of the Blue (1986), Colombo p.414
How exciting an individual are you? On a scale of 1 (completely boring) to 10 (a veritable house ablaze), where would you place yourself?
In a democracy, where every vote counts, a 5 or a 6 is the best place to be: ordinary folk won’t think you’re snooty, and the elite will think you can be buffaloed. Five or 6 is good, with hints of 7 or even 8. Nine is risky. Ten is out of the question.
