How do you disprove a conviction, absenting any proof of rationality in your opponent?

Rank in descending order your five most solid convictions. Then the corresponding five belonging to your political opponents, with which convictions you most vehemently disagree. Is there any middle ground between them, sufficiently wide to accommodate both sides?
